For 24 years, the Pantone Color Institute has been designating a color to represent the year ahead, and for its 25th anniversary, Pantone’s 2024 pick is Peach Fuzz (Pantone 13-1023), a subtle hue between pink and orange that conveys peaceful warmth.
Unveiled in early December 2023, the Pantone’s 2024 ‘Color of the Year’ is hoped to symbolize a gentle and soothing approach to life, epitomized by its “velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul.”
According to Pantone Vice President Lauri Pressman, Peach Fuzz is all about the warmth and coziness that people so desire - a visual representation of “togetherness” and of what enjoyment there is within the “moment of stillness and the feeling of sanctuary this creates.”
The tenderness, kindness, and belongingness emanating from Peach Fuzz serve as a utilitarian reminder to take a break and enjoy the quiet stillness of momentary isolation.
As Pantone explains, the selection for the Color of the Year in 2024 “needed to express our desire to want to be close to those we love and the joy we get when allowing ourselves to tune into who we are and just savor a moment of quiet time alone.”
Color experts go through a rigorous selection process that includes a trend analysis and a thoughtful research on the social milieu that the world is living in. Pantone also incorporates various concepts and ideas from virtually all across the board - entertainment, music, travel destinations, avant-garde cultural nuances, and notable lifestyles, among many other considerations.
“Anything and everything taking place in our culture during the year can influence our Pantone Color of the Year selections, with each source carrying a different weight from year to year depending on what’s taking place in our culture at that time,” explained Pressman.
