The prominent “Iwag Festival” illumined once more the Municipality of Pototan in the Province of Iloilo on December 18, 2023. Iwag is the vernacular for "light."

An influx of visitors was noticed during the switch-on ceremony of the town’s Christmas tree at the plaza, Christmas decors, and the municipal hall which stood out like a big gift box with lights taking the pattern of a ribbon.

Pototan stands by its moniker, the “Christmas capital of Western Visayas.”

Arcs of lights and gigantic candle lights lined up the streets perfect for photo opportunities.

Families, circles of friends, workmates, among other groups of visitors, trooped to the plaza to take part of the merriment.

A fireworks display capped the lights-on.

The Uberas family brought food to share at the plaza.

“Ang lights at displays ang ganda talaga at yung fireworks din. Nagluto nga kami ng hapunan at dito na kumain,” Rosabel Uberas said.

Food stalls are also mounted to offer sumptuous meals and refreshing drinks, chips, delicacies, among other delectable food items.

A program featuring a band performance took place at the plaza.

The Iloilo Provincial Government backed the “Iwag Festival” being a tourist crowd-drawer.

“Salamat sa Iwag festival. Ang ating Iwag festival ang naglalagay sa bayan ng Pototan sa mapa sang tourism sa buong Pilipinas,” Iloilo Province Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. said.

The Christmas village will operate up until January 2, 2024.
