The Queendom truly is a majestic realm, almost unreal, in more ways than one. It is vast, grandiose, and powerful. It is therefore deserving of a rightful potentate to rule over its domain and preserve its beauty and glory. After all, what is a Queendom without its Queen, or in the case of the Kapuso Network’s powerful singing sextet, Queens?
It is a rarity, though, for a state to be ruled by six equally powerful Queens – six artists who have already left undeniable impact in the music industry even with relatively young musical careers.
This is not to say that they feel one and the same when performing on stage, or that they are similar stylistically with no unique ways of telling them apart, but only to suggest that they are queens in their own right.
If anything, it’s testament to just how powerful this group of divas is, because, if one only tries to wrap his head around this: A talented, vocally gifted, intentionally prolific performer multiplied by six and raised to the power of friendship and onstage chemistry.
Now, that does sound like an unstoppable Queendom.
‘QUEEN’ DEFINED
In an exclusive interview with GMA Regional TV News, the queens shared what to them is the definition of being ‘queen.’ Their answers revealed beautifully distinct fragments of their personalities.
Thea Astley, the youngest in the group, thinks a queen is someone who is out of the norm, and is capable of being different.
“Someone who is unconventional, because I don’t consider or I don’t think my range is what you (would) commonly think of as biritera,” said Thea. She believes that what she lacks in the traditional traits present in a female singer, she makes up for with other skills she has honed.
“Being a queen is all about hardwork and pushing yourself outside of your limits, outside of what you think are your limits,” added the 22-year old.
Jessica Villarubin, who hails from San Fernando, Cebu, believes that a queen, foremost, is one who is brave.
“Wala kang inaatrasan na laban, (o anumang) mga pagsubok sa buhay. Mga kantang mahirap - mapa-Spanish man yan, Korean, o Chinese!” the Cebuana quipped.
Mindanaoan Mariane Osabel is brimming with confidence when she said that the true mark of a queen is her confidence. ”Kailangan mo maging confident sa mga performances mo at siyempre sa sarili mo,” said the Iligan, Lanao del Norte native.
Boholana Hannah Precillas, meanwhile, sees being an inspiration to everyone as the greatest indicator of being a queen.
“Through your confidence, through your courage - na kaya mong harapin ang challenges, magiging inspiration ka sa iba na hindi lang ikaw ang nakikinabang, but also yung mga nanonood sayo,” said Hannah.
Julie Anne San Jose thinks being a queen is all about strength and independence. “Being a queen is being empowered, and taking full control of yourself.
For Rita Daniela, on top of being empowered, it’s having the courage to love and accept fully yourself that makes a true queen. “You also have to be confident because it will show, if you are not, it will also show,” added Rita.
These are strong but believable words from strong-willed vocal goddesses whose stage presence can command even Leonidas’ 300. They are two marching days away from facing a sold-out crowd. All the rehearsals, secret regimens, tips and tricks in preparation for this momentous night will all be worth it once they hit the ‘Queendom: LIVE’ stage for their first ever concert. It’s going to be like listening to a playlist made from the heavens in a clear showcase of their individual talent and its majestic fusion.
On December 2, 2023 at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre, the Queens of All-Out Sundays’ Queendom Julie Anne San Jose, Rita Daniela, Jessica Villarubin, Hannah Precillas, Thea Astley, and Mariane Osabel will be going all-out way more than they already do at AOS, in once-in-a-lifetime performances they say “people have never seen them do before.”
With the kind of talent the queens display, their musical empire is here to stay. It will persist and continue to inspire, as their loyal followers stand witness to the unfolding of their greatness.
