An inventor in Cebu City creates a construction material guaranteed to withstand the elements for a longer period of time.
Jaime Ngosiong, 77 years old, of Barangay Basak San Nicolas, takes pride in his innovation labeled as “fiber-light bamboo” which he said is a super-saver material because it comes with the assurance of being free from drywood termite infestation or “bukbok” common in natural bamboo.
Another is being free from powderpost beetles infestation which creates fine sawdust in piles all over bamboo culms or poles and splits.
He has indeed found a solution to counter unnecessary harvesting of bamboos and wanton extermination.
Ngosiong would have wanted to be an engineer as he said he has fresh ideas about materials and designs, and can see things shaping even in a mote of dust.
However, his father being a Chinese national had lived up to the expectation to be good at one thing --- operating some sort of general merchandise or trading business.
He had no options.
Ngosiong takes pride in his other inventions which are a big help to manufacturers of the ubiquitous rice noodles. He has created his version of the stainless steel, portable rice noodle cutters for "miki" and "misua."
He is unstoppable. The light bulb in his mind continues blinking to exciting possibilities. In fact, he is working on a prototype of an amphibious bicycle.
He has an enormous storehouse in mind of contraptions to modify and improve.
Ngosiong said the process might take him a lifetime but he is a fervent disciple of contributing significantly to society through modern mechanization. It is in this aspect that he is most happy to be of help while keeping his ancestral orientation on "business-mindedness."
