Central Mindanao University Music Society and Koro Seraphim from Tagbilaran, Bohol were on the road from an outreach program as part of the International Choral Festival in Dumaguete City when they started singing ‘Walang Natira’, Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin’, and ‘Bituing Walang Ningning.’
Their rendition of ‘Walang Natira’ by Filipino rapper and songwriter Gloc-9 went: “Napakaraming guro dito sa amin ngunit bakit tila walang natira, napakaraming nurse dito sa amin ngunit bakit tila walang natira, nag-aabroad sila.”
CMU Choir Director Doreen Gersava said that they use music not just for entertainment but also to spread social awareness and cultural diversity.
“The song was first released in 2011 but until now, the message is still relevant, loudly resonating current realities,” Gersava shared.
Their version is a part of the CMU concert repertoire and one of its winning pieces during the 2022 Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools Choral Competition.
“We dedicate the song to everyone who loves music, choral singing, and the Philippines,” Gersava said.
The person who uploaded the video, Agustin Bas, said the choirs’ singing brought nostalgia.
“I am really a fan of chorals… it feels surreal hearing the iconic OPM songs from them and I like to capture beautiful moments,” he said.
He was a part of the choral festival committee.
As of writing, the videos of the choirs he uploaded on Tiktok have a total of more than 3 million views.
