Firefighters in Calabanga, Camarines Sur, assisted a woman in labor early morning on Monday, March 24, 2025, delivering twin baby girls successfully inside a pedicab before rushing them to a clinic for further care.
A concerned citizen rushed to the Calabanga Fire Station seeking assistance for the woman, but ambulances from the Calabanga Emergency Assistance Service Team (CEAST) were unavailable as they were transporting other patients.
Fire Officers FO3 Leo M. Muroda, FO2 Jay O. Occiano, and FO1 Philip L. Dimaiwat—who are all registered nurses—responded immediately.
Dimaiwat, who is also a registered midwife, discovered that the baby was in a breech position. Using his expertise, he assisted carefully in a successful delivery.
To their surprise, the woman was carrying twins.
After delivering both baby girls safely, the BFP personnel transported the mother and her newborns to the nearest lying-in clinic for further medical care.
"Indeed, the Bureau of Fire Protection is not just about fire suppression but also about saving lives," the BFP Region 5 Calabanga Fire Station said in a Facebook post.
