Facts and trivia. These are imparted by tour guides to senior citizens in a newly launched tourism initiative.

The rolling tour is part of the city tour which provides senior citizens the experience to visit the city's interesting spots and historical landmarks.

A rolling tour is a "bus or vehicle tour that visits multiple places in a city or region."

The rolling tour includes, but not limited to, Casa Real de Iloilo, old Iloilo prison that has been converted into a museum along Bonifacio Drive, Jaro big market, and city proper.

The tour allows senior citizens to linger for 30 minutes, such as inside the Jaro Cathedral and Molo Mansion.

“The Jaro Cathedral, one of the heritage churches here na pino-promote dahil we do have a lot (of) guests outside Iloilo na makikita nila ang ating heritage churches,” said Kathryna Louise Tortola, tour guide.

Lola Ricaflor Obsequio, 79 years old, is one of 15 senior citizens who joined the rolling tour on Thursday, February 20, 2025 who enjoyed and reminisced plenty of memories.

“Enlightening kasi itong lugar, nakita natin ulit. Maganda ang feeling kasi ma-recall ang noon at ngayon, linking one with the other,” Lola Ricaflor said.

Meanwhile, 68-year-old Lolo Tony Abaygar of Arevalo District, Iloilo City shared that the tour is informative. In fact, Lolo Tony said, he learned duriing the tour where Arevalo is named after and how it came to be.

The tour is also a stress reliever, Lolo Tony added.

“Sa tour na ito, nabuksan ang aking pag-iisip na ganun pala ang pangalan nya. Dapat sa mga huling araw ng senior dapat na-i-enjoy. Hindi dapat ma-stress at dapat ma-free sa mga problema,” Lolo Tony further said.

It is a goal of the city tour to promote active participation of senior citizens in tourism initiatives. Tours are seen to stimulate cognitive skills among the elderly.

The tour for senior citizens is scheduled every Thursday.
