A police officer in Manaoag, Pangasinan became an unexpected hero when he helped a woman give birth at a gas station in response to a man’s call for help.
Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage captured the moment a man flagged down the vehicle ridden by Police Staff Sgt. Niño Pacis.
Pacis later found Mary Janeth Maximo in labor inside a parked tricycle.
Realizing the urgency, he assisted her immediately, calling for help for a blanket they could use. He said it only took moments before the baby came out.
‘Yun pala, manganganak yung asawa niya,” Pacis said.
Mary said they had just come from a midwife who sent her home saying she was only two centimeters dilated.
Thanks to Pacis’ quick thinking, Mary gave birth safely to a healthy baby girl, Benice Mackenzie, before they could even reach the hospital.
Netizens have called Pacis a hero but the cop said he only did what was needed at that moment to keep the mother and child safe.
“Hindi po ako nurse pero ginawa ko ang lahat para mailigtas yung magulang at tsaka yung bata,” he said.
Mary and her baby have returned home and are in good health.
