Fisherfolk in Libertad town, Province of Antique marked a Happy New Year, literally, through their astonishing fish catch.
Before 2024 bid adieu, the fishermen’s bountiful catch of “mamsa,” otherwise known as “talakitok,” or giant trevally which is a large marine fish in the jack family, weighed an amazing four tons.
In a video taken by the fishermen, mirth abounds as they collected the fish in the “lambaklad” (a large set net to catch fish) of the Taboc Fisherfolk Association.
Lambaklad is a portmanteau of Filipino words "lambat" (fishing net) and "baklad" (fish coral).
Northern Antique has always been known for its marine waters teeming with a variety of fish.
