GMA Regional TV’s One North Central Luzon, and other GMA Network programs and personalities received top honors at the 11th Paragala: Central Luzon Media Awards.
It was held at Holy Angel University in Angeles City, Pampanga on Friday, December 6, 2024.
Organized by Bachelor of Arts (BA) Communication students from the Communicators League, the Paragala Awards aim to recognize media practitioners for their outstanding contributions.
As Program Coordinator Karen Crineza Caoile Rivera explained, "Paragala means to give recognition to those media practitioners with exemplary work being vanguards of truth."
This year, GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon was named “Central Luzon’s Choice for Local Television Station” for delivering impactful and truthful news to the community.
The other awardees include GMA Network’s flagship newscast 24 Oras, which won the “Paragala Crisis Coverage Award” and “Eye of the Nation Award for News Program.”
Esteemed journalist Jessica Soho was honored with the “Voice of the Society Award for Journalist,” while her program, “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,” received the same title in the Magazine Show category.
GMA’s documentary show I-Witness also bagged the “Voice of the Society Award for Documentary Show,” with documentarist Kara David earning the “Paragala Vanguard of Reality Award” for her episode "Magtanim ay 'Di Biro."
Here are the other winners from the Kapuso network:
- Pinoy MD as the Merit on Health Education Awardee, hosted by Connie Sison.
- Biyahe ni Drew, recognized as the Pinnacle of Art and Culture on Television Program.
- Amazing Earth, hosted by Dingdong Dantes, awarded Catalyst for Science Exploration.
- Unang Hirit host Susan Enriquez, named Face of Televisual Brilliance.
One student attendee, Nawon Kim, expressed the significance of the event.
"[It’s about] recognizing the importance of media amidst fake news,” he said.
