The sound of waves crashing ceaselessly at the coves is relaxing.

The pristine, soothing seawater caresses lovingly one's mind and body.

Welcome to Kuliatan Marine Sanctuary in the Municipality of San Joaquin, Province of Iloilo!

Kuliatan is located in Barangay Sinogbuhan.

Kuliatan teems with schools of fish – angelfish, butterflyfish, surgeonfish, among others.

As Kuliatan is a protected area, wardens make sure that the carrying capacity is observed especially during the peak season to minimize the impact of human activities to the rich marine life.

“Pwede silang mag-enjoy mag-snorkeling, maglangoy o magpaturo ng langoy. Pwede nilang ma-avail dito sa Kuliatan Marine Sanctuary. Kailangan lang dito ingatan nila ang corals na hindi masira,” George Mendoza, a staff member at Kuliatan Marine Sanctuary, said.

The natural charm and serenity at Kuliatan entice not just local tourists, but also foreign nationals who choose to linger, and to keep coming back for the superb experience.

One of these foreign visitors is Michael Thayer from the United States of America.

“It’s the scenery, the tranquility of it, it’s the relaxing environment, a lot less tourist and it’s just peaceful,” Thayer elucidated as to how much he adores Kuliatan.

The barangay is focused tightly on the protection of the natural wonder to ensure conservation.

So, dear Kapuso visitors, if you are keen on an escape-from-the-city-life trip plan and feel-the-rush-of-the-sea-waves experience, you do not have to go that far. Here in Iloilo, you can find paradise.

“If anybody wants to get away and have an amazing experience, come to Iloilo with the off the beaten path locations. It’s the way to go to get the true mental health escape,” Thayer added.
