What started as a hobby has provided a Grade 4 student in Allacapan, Cagayan income especially during school breaks and when classes were suspended due to weather disturbances.

Jhia Denise Florido, a student at Allacapan Central Elementary School, learned to crochet in May 2024 with guidance from her older sister and YouTube tutorials.

By August 2024, she began selling her handmade creations.

Her products include P20 keychains, P15 hair clips, and P80 pencil cases.

“Noong una, hinahayaan ko lang siya na mag-crochet kasi hobby niya ’yun. Gumagawa siya ng bag, pencil case, at mga bandana,” Jhona Torida-Florido, her mother, said.

Among Jhia’s customers are her classmates, churchmates, and her mother’s friends and students.

Her mother later took Jhia's business online.

“One day, why not ibenta natin online? Nag-post ako sa Facebook. Yun, maraming bumili, nagulat ako marami na siyang orders,” Jhona said.

Through hard work and persistence, Jhia saved enough money to buy her own cellphone.

"To achieve your desire, you must find a way [like] by using your skills, hobbies, and talent — just like what I did," Jhia said.

Jhia’s story proves that creativity and consistency can lead to success, no matter the age.
