The Provincial Government of Bohol celebrated the 128th birth anniversary of Bohol's most illustrious son, former President Carlos Polestico Garcia (also known as CPG), in a series of commemorative events on November 4, 2024.
The celebration dubbed "Pagpalungtad sa Handumanan sa Kinadak-ang Garbo ning atong Lalawigan” started with a wreath-laying ceremony at the CPG Park. The unveiling of the President CPG Circumferential Road Marker and the opening of the CPG Memorabilia Collection Gallery which were both held at the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP)-Bohol followed, according to a post on the official news portal of the Provincial Government of Bohol.
A commemorative program also took place after at the Bohol Cultural Center.
The prestigious CPG Awards were conferred, honoring Boholanos who have excelled in sports, culture and the arts, education, and public service, and posthumous recognition to distinguished tri-media practitioners.
Jeremy Barns, the director-general of NMP, Carla Garcia Campos, an heir of former President CPG; Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado, and Vice Governor Tita Baja delivered inspirational messages during the program, which also featured “Kuracha Boholana” and “Balak” performances by CPG scholars.
PAGHANDUM
The "Paghandum" exhibition honors the legacy of President Garcia, a prominent figure in Philippine history and one of Bohol’s most revered sons.
"His life and contributions, especially his Filipino First Policy and dedication to Philippine independence and culture are worth celebrating and remembering," says NMP-Bohol in a post.
"The exhibition provides an opportunity for both locals and visitors to appreciate his impact on the nation. Located on the second floor of the museum, this tribute is a meaningful reminder of Garcia’s legacy and contributions to Philippine identity and governance," NMP-Bohol further said.
The President Carlos P. Garcia Memorabilia Collection is a Gift to the Nation from Maria Carla Josefa G. Campos, Jose Carlos G. Campos, and Isabel Campos Bustos — heirs of President CPG.
Museum is open Tuesdays to Sundays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
