Los Sabungeros, a GMA Public Affairs and GMA Pictures investigative documentary whose screening at Cinemalaya was terminated, will finally make its much-awaited premiere at the QCinema International Film Festival in November.
This after GMA Public Affairs, through a Facebook post, expressed relief that the film is finally going to be available to the public since its cancelled premiere during the 2024 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival last August.
"Walang makapipigil sa katotohan. The previously canceled premiere of GMA Public Affairs and GMA Pictures’ first investigative docu-film ‘Lost Sabungeros’ is finally set to make its debut at the QCinema International Film Festival. Catch it on the big screen this November," wrote GMA Public Affairs.
Set to premiere in Cinemalaya, the screenings were cancelled after the festival cited "security concerns."
According to a GMA News Online report, director Bryan Brazil expressed his gratitude for being provided the "platform" to show the journeyed film.
"Malayo-layo na rin po 'yung tinakbo ng pelikula namin. We're really happy na nabigyan po kami ng platform dito sa QCinema, we're really thankful. Ang 'Lost Sabungeros' po ay kwento ng mga pamilya ng mga nawawalang sabungero na hanggang sa ngayon po ay hindi pa rin nahanap," he said.
"Lost Sabungeros," the first-ever investigative documentary of GMA Public Affairs and GMA Pictures, explores the storylines behind the disappearances of over 30 sabungeros or cockfighters who went missing in 2021. It was reported that the production team spent more than two years to finish the documentary despite "threats against their lives."
QCinema has announced that "Los Sabungeros" will be part of the Special Screenings section. "Lost Sabungeros" will have its Q&A Gala on November 9 at 8:35 p.m., at Cinema 16 in Gateway Mall, Quezon City, and will have another screening on November 12, 1:45 p.m., at Cinema 15, Gateway.
