Over 4,000 teachers gathered in Laoag City for the "Lamina, Gallery Walk in the Past," a nostalgic display as part of the 112th founding anniversary of the Department of Education in Ilocos Norte.

The exhibit, held at the Centennial Arena, took visitors on a walk through history, showcasing stories of education and resilience during challenging times.

"Habang ang mga teachers at iba pang bisita ay naglalakad, they are reminiscing the past kung paano ang ating departmentamento ay nag-survive noong panahon ng giyera," James Michael Ruiz, a teacher, said.

The photos on display told stories of educators who fought to continue teaching despite wars and hardships.

Among the images were those of Don Miguel, the first gobernadorcillo of Sarrat, who contributed significantly to education in the area.

One photo from 1921 featured the best garden of Sarrat Elementary School.

The exhibit also highlighted historical figures like Josefa Llanes Escoda, founder of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines, and showcased images of old schools and teaching methods.

As today's teachers face modern challenges, Ruiz emphasized the importance of dedication.

"Hamon lalong-lalo na sa amin, [at] sa mga baguhan din na guro, na ipakita ang kanilang pagmamahal at passion sa pagtuturo, he said.

Ruiz reminded fellow educators that their work extends beyond the classroom and into the community.
