A Grade 12 student in Mangaldan, Pangasinan is supporting his classmates’ learning to support his own studies.

Miguel Siador, a resident of Barangay Guilig, spends one to two hours after school to tutor his classmates who need help understanding their lessons.

The money he earns is what he uses to cover school expenses, and even help his family.

He dreams of becoming a civil engineer.

“Pagkatapos ng school, dumidiretsyo ako sa tinuturoan ko mga one hour to two hours… pag-uwi ko, saka naman ako tutulong sa bahay. Gagawin ko yung mga schoolworks assignments ko,” Siador said.

In addition to tutoring, Siador helps his father with his masonry work.

Even with these responsibilities, he remains a consistent honor student.

“Very responsible talaga, tapos makikita mo talaga na very positive, enthusiastic siya sa mga matutunan niya sa panibagong araw," Bernadith Visperas, Siador's class adviser, said.

"Every day yan, hindi siya nahuhuli sa klase at saka nakikita ko din na shinashare niya kung ano yung alam niya,” she added.

Siador's approach to life's challenges is marked by a hopeful attitude.

“Kung may gusto kayong makuha, may mga pangarap naman tayo, sana gawin natin yung makakaya natin para marating yung gusto nating kinabukasan,” he said.
