Rephael Raagas, a science communicator from Barangay Dolores, City of San Fernando, Pampanga, secured a spot in the Top 30 of the "Breakthrough Junior Challenge," an international science video-making competition in the United States.
His video entry was the only one from the Philippines to qualify.
In his video, Raagas explains why people feel heat when consuming spicy food, using simple storytelling to break down complex scientific topics.
He shared his passion for making science approachable.
"People shouldn't be scared of science because science is the reason why we are able to function, why we are able to live, and one way I do to entice people to love science is through storytelling," Raagas said.
Raagas hopes his work will inspire more young people to appreciate the everyday benefits of science.
To advance to the finals, his video must be one of the top five most liked entries on social media.
