After five months of care, a resident of Barangay Caray, Nueva Era, has turned over two Brahminy Kites to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

The Brahminy Kites, also known as Haliastur indus, belong to the family Accipitridae, which includes eagles.

The birds were in good health when they were handed over to the DENR.

Although Brahminy Kites are not yet classified as endangered, their population is declining due to hunting and habitat disturbance.

These birds are often seen in wetlands such as rivers, streams, or the sea, where they feed on dead fish.

The DENR has temporarily placed the Brahminy Kites at a mini zoo located in Barangay Calayab, Laoag City, where they will be cared for before being released back into their natural habitat.
