As tensions rise between Hezbollah and Israeli forces, concerns grow among residents in Lebanon, including Filipinos working in the region.

Among them is Robelita Sabado-Gallardo, a 48-year-old domestic helper from Allacapan, Cagayan, currently residing in Beirut.

Despite being far from the center of the conflict, she has noticed a significant increase in the number of fighter jets flying over their area in recent days.

"’Yung every day na may mga lumilipad sa air space ng Lebanon, medyo mababa, naririnig namin ang sinasabi nilang sound barrier ng dalawang beses, ng mga jet," she said.

The sound is so intense that it reportedly shakes the building where she resides.

Despite the tension, Gallardo remains steadfast in her decision to stay in Lebanon.

She says her situation remains stable, and she communicates regularly with her family back home.

"Para po sa akin na single mom, at ako ang sumusuporta sa aking magulang, hindi ko afford na mawalan ng trabaho," Gallardo said.

Her employer has also assured her that they will not abandon her if they need to evacuate to a safer location.

As of this writing, Lebanon is under Alert Level 3, allowing for voluntary repatriation of Filipinos.

In response, the Migrant Desk Office in Mangaldan, Pangasinan, is coordinating with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to determine if there are any locals working in Lebanon who might need assistance.

"In case na may repatriation, we will coordinate sa OWWA, tapos kakausapin namin ang family dito, and kami din ang susundo sa kanila," Ernie Cuison, Mangaldan Migrant Desk Officer, said.
