A cat lover from Laoag City has been caring for felines abandoned by their owners.

During the onslaught of #CarinaPH, which also intensified the southwest monsoon, Sheena Leigh Cabayuban and her boyfriend traveled around Laoag to check if there were cats that needed to be rescued.

"Ang ginawa po namin noong tag-ulan lalo na noong kasagsagan po ng Bagyong Carina, nag-ikot-ikot po kami ng boyfriend ko along Laoag City po para if ever na may mga makita kami na mga strays, kukunin at ire-rescue po namin..." Cabayuban said.

Cabayuban has built a dedicated cat cabin to shelter the cats she rescues.

During their rounds during #CarinaPH, Cabayuban and her boyfriend found five dead cats that were either hit by vehicles or had drowned in the flood.

"Kaso nga lang, sa kasamaang palad, more on mga nasagasaan ang nakita namin," Cabayuban said.

However, she remains undeterred and continues her rescue efforts, responding to calls and messages online.

Since starting her rescue mission in 2018, Sheena has rescued and cared for a total of 38 cats. She also shares her work online to raise awareness and encourage others to help stray animals.
