The best campus publications in the Philippines took center stage as the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) 2024, held from July 8 to 12 in Carcar City, Cebu, announced on Wednesday all 13 podium winners in the best school paper competition, 12 of which hail from the regions.
The Department of Education made the congratulatory announcement through a post on its official Facebook page on July 11– a day before the country’s top campus journalism meet comes to a close.
ELEMENTARY LEVEL
National Capital Region’s Placido del Mundo Elementary School through its official publication “The Paradigm” emerged on top and was adjudged the best overall school paper in the English category, followed by first runner-up “MMSU’s ABC” by the Mariano Marcos State University Laboratory Elementary School of Ilocos Norte.
In the Filipino category, “Ang Dayo,” the official entry of Southville IV Elementary School from Laguna, emerged victorious. Coming in second was Surigao del Sur-based Bislig City Division SPED Center through their school publication “Lambigit.”
Niugan Elementary School’s “Ang Niyugan” from Laguna placed third.
SECONDARY LEVEL
Gusa Regional Science High School's “Nudo Veritas and Pedro ‘Oloy’ N. Roa Senior High School's "Counter Point" – both representing Cagayan de Oro – were declared champion and first runner-up, respectively, in the English category. Finishing third was Davao City pride “Campus Glimpse,” the campus publication of F. Bangoy National High School.
In the Filipino category, Philippine Science High School - Southern Mindanao Campus of Davao City won first place through its “Bagwis Agham.” Coming in second was “Ang Pastol” by General Santos City National High School.
Quezon Province’s Quezon National High School (Ang Niyog), Tagum City’s La Filipina National High School (Ang Tambuli), and Iloilo Province’s Pavia National High School (Ang Biyaya) round up the top five.
The National Schools Press Conference 2024, with the theme “Galing, Talino, at Husay ng mga Batang Makabansa sa Diwa ng Matatag na Adhika," is the biggest and most prestigious school journalism meet in the country.
Implemented by the Department of Education in pursuance of RA 7079 also known as the Campus Journalism Act of 1991, NSPC acts as an annual tournament where the best of the best student-journalists representing their respective divisions and regions come together and compete in various individual and group categories.
NSPC 2024 formally opened its festivities on July 8, and will conclude tomorrow, July 12.
