The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) plans to establish over 200 additional free Wi-Fi sites in Pangasinan to provide internet connectivity to geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA).

For Francis Cabrera, a college student, the internet is crucial for his studies, especially for online classes. However, he often struggles with poor Wi-Fi signal.

"Para sa online class maganda yung free Wi-Fi... sa online class [at] mga activities sa school," Cabrera said.

DICT aims to provide free Wi-Fi in public places, including schools, hospitals, and public plazas.

"May mga GIDA sites sa Pangasinan, [o] Geographical[ly] Isolated [and] Disadvantaged Areas, na tinatarget na rin ng DICT para [at] i-provide sila sa mga area na wala talagang connectivity," Rexaire Deeihl Lapaan, the Provincial Engineer, said.

DICT assures strict cyber security for users of the free Wi-Fi. They remind the public to still be careful and responsible while using the internet.

"Nakakatulong siya in terms of education [at] in terms o fast transactions na nakakapag access na sa internet," Lapaan said.
