Bea Gomez is no stranger to the bright lights. After all, she’s a former Miss Universe Philippines titleholder, and a Top 5 finalist at the biggest beauty pageant in the universe. As she breaks new ground after signing for stardom with Sparkle, she takes with her the kind of discipline she got from pageantry, and the inherent desire to always learn.

The 29-year-old beauty queen from San Fernando, Cebu, born Beatrice Luigi Gomez, is one of the newest talents who signed with GMA Network’s premiere talent agency during the #SignedForStardom event last May 16, marking a career shift from competitive pageantry to acting and hosting.

Asked what pageantry-honed trait will be key for her transition, Gomez said it’s the discipline to always maintain the quality of her craft.

“Sa lahat noh, abi nila ang pag acting dali ra kaayo siya na trabaho but it is a discipline. So since gikan man ko sa pageantry ang ako ang disiplina sa pagtrabaho ang akong work ethic as a beauty pageant performer, syempre kailanganon jud kaayo na sa pag-acting also, as a Sparkle artist” she told GMA Regional TV News.

(People think acting is an easy job, but it is all based on discipline. And since I am from the pageant industry, I will be needing the kind of discipline and work ethic that I got as a beauty pageant performer. I’ll be able to use that in acting, as a Sparkle artist)

“So hopefully, ang ako ang mga values ang akong mga disiplina sa pageantry, magamit pud nako sa kuwang acting career, hosting career, very soon,” she added.

(Hopefully, I will be able to use those values in my acting and hosting career very soon)

The former MUPH titleholder, who would love to learn from the likes of Sparkle stars Gabbi Garcia and Rabiya Mateo, also bared that she prefers hosting over acting.

“Acting and hosting, lain-lain siyang disiplina, pero mas gusto nako ang hosting. Mas close sya ako ang heart kay bilang unsa man ko masscom graduate, so mas gusto jud nako magsilbi, mag-entertain sa mga tao sa pinaagi sa pag-host,” said the Cebuana, who graduated from the University of San Jose-Recoletos with a degree in Mass Communication.

(Acting and hosting – they’re two different disciplines, but I prefer hosting. It’s closer to my heart since I am a mass communication graduate. So entertaining a crowd through hosting is closer to my heart.)

Her advice to fellow beauty queens who aspire to explore other genres and expand their range: “never be afraid to try.”

She reminded them to not be fazed by the challenges that come with new opportunities as everything can be a learning experience.

“The things we learn, ang mga lesson, whatever it is, ma-apply ra gyud nato, we just have to be willing to learn and accept the opportunities na nasa atua karon,” she added.

(The things we learn, all the lessons, whatever it is, are things we can always adopt. We just have to be willing to learn and accept the opportunities presented to us.)
