University of the Philippines Los Baños, University of San Carlos, and Mindanao State University all replicate an outstanding performance after being named to EduRank’s 2024 ranking - going back to back as all three also cracked the list in 2023.

UPLB ranked 5th, one place higher than its 2023 performance (6th); USC is a back-to-back 7th placer; while MSU moved down to number 10 from its eighth spot in 2023. The ranking comes from an updated list of top universities released on February 29 by EduRank, an independent metric-based assessment firm that grades higher education institutions.

University of the Philippines Diliman topped the list, followed by De La Salle University - Manila and Ateneo de Manila University at second and third, respectively. University of Santo Tomas placed fourth to complete the top four cast. 

Popularly known as the country’s ‘big four,’ UPD, DLSU, ADMU, and UST all remained in their respective 2023 placements. EduRank's Top 10 Universities for 2024 are as follows:

Notably, all ten topnotchers also ranked in the list’s 2023 edition, only that UPM and UPLB switched places, while MSU, AIM, and Mapua mixed up the 8th to 10th positions. 

TOP SCHOOLS IN THE REGIONS

Laguna-based University of the Philippines Los Baños, a member of the UP system, ranked 869th in Asia and 2,761st in the world. Its total published works amount to 4,522, and was cited 60,629 times. 

In 2023, UPLB had 389 publications and 8497 citations. EduRank’s university profile listed pageant queen Ariella Arida, late corporate magnate Eduardo Cojuangco Jr., award-winning director Jerrold Tarog, and lawyer-politician Abigail Binay, as its notable alumni.

Cebu-based University of San Carlos emerged as the top-ranking institution in Visayas. It placed 4,230th in the world out of 14,132 assessed schools, and is 1,460th in Asia. According to EduRank, USC tallied a total of 1,180 publications and was cited 22,054 times. In 2023, it logged 91 publications and had 2,931 citations. 

USC’s notable alumni include former president Sergio Osmeña Sr., former senator Vicente Sotto, and basketball legend Mon Fernandez.

Mindanao State University (MSU) is Mindanao’s top university. It ranked 1,707th in Asia and 4,800th in the world. Its total publication and citation count amount to 947 and 2,321, respectively. 

Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa, actress and host Melisa Cantiveros-Francisco, and civic leader Samira Gutoc-Tomawis banner its roster of famous graduates.

‘BIG FOUR’ MAINTAIN LEAD 

Top school UP Diliman is 374th in Asia and 1,367th in the world. According to EduRank’s assessment of 13 academic fields, UPD topped in all but five disciplines - placing second in Business, Computer Science, Math, and Medicine, while ranking fourth in Psychology.

Manila-based DLSU, second in the Philippines, 507th in Asia and 1,752nd globally, is the clear leader in the fields of Business, Computer Science, Math, and Psychology. The Lasallian brothers-led institution placed in the top four of all the academic disciplines listed, mostly playing second to UP Diliman.

The country’s third placer and Asia’s 565th ADMU is the 1,931st university in the world. It was named to four academic field’s top four - Arts and Design (3rd), Computer Science (4th), Economics (3rd), and Liberal Arts/Social Sciences (4th).

Number four-ranked UST (836th in Asia, 2,652nd globally) ranked 4th in Arts and Design, Business, and Math, and claimed the third spot in both Medicine and Psychology.
