To bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in agriculture, a farm owner established an Integrated Farm and School for Practical Farming.
Crisner Lagazo, 32, left teaching high school in 2019 to pursue his passion for farming.
Lagazo drew inspiration from his agriculturist parents in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.
"Although hindi ako graduate ng agriculture, lalo [at patuloy] kong natututunan yung mga methods," he said.
The Integrated Farm boasts of a diverse range of crops, including tomatoes, eggplants, and onions, providing college students studying agriculture with an immersive experience in the actual processes of cultivation and care.
"From the name of the farm itself: integrated. So we got to immerse ourselves in, not just planting, but also in aqua-culture, poultry, and livestock production," Marc Shane Sadiri, a student, said.
Students receive free training at the TESDA-accredited Integrated Farm, where they gain practical knowledge of planting, caring for crops, and understanding aquaculture and livestock production.
After completing the training, they are provided with free vegetable seedlings.
"Na-initiate ko itong ‘distribute plant vegetable seedling production project’ para maidistribute [yung mga seedlings] sa mga gustong mag-engage into farming," Lazago said.
Beyond catering to students, Lazago opens his farm to farmers interested in learning about modern agriculture.
