Seven of the nine top-performing schools in the 2024 Mechanical engineers licensure examination hail from the regions, while Davao City pride Rey Mediana Arcabal is hailed this year’s topnotcher, according to the official results released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on February 27, 2024. 

PRC announced that 4,458 out 6,770 total takers passed the licensure examination for mechanical engineers, good for a 65.8% national passing rate. The February 2024 results saw an increase from last year’s (August 2023) 49.9% passing rate, during which 2,113 out of 4,237 aspiring engineers made the list. 

Meanwhile, 65 of 108 (60.2%) takers passed the Certified Plant Mechanics Licensure Examination, almost a 5% climb from August 2023’s 55.6% passing percentage. 

TOP-PERFORMING SCHOOLS (75+ EXAMINEES AND 80%+ PASSING RATE)

University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines - Cagayan de Oro garnered an outstanding 97.33% passing percentage to rank first nationwide, having 73 of its 75 total takers pass the licensure exam. 

Second-ranked Bicol University - Legazpi saw 70 of its 75 examinees enter the list, good for an impressive 93.33% percentage. 

Rounding out the top five are Bohol Island State University in Tagbilaran City (81/87; 92.1%), University of Southeastern Philippines in Davao City (72/29; 91.14%), and Technological University of the Philippines - Visayas (96/112; 85.71%).

Two Metro Manila schools placed sixth and seventh, as Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta. Mesa, Manila achieved 82.78% (125/151), while Technological University of the Philippines - Manila got 81.33% (196/241), respectively.

Completing the top-performing list are Cebu Technological University - Main which garnered an 81.31% rate (87/107), and Lucban Quezon’s Southern Luzon State University with 80.72% (67/83). 

TOP-PERFORMING EXAMINEES

Topnotcher Rey Mediana Arcabal, a University of Mindanao product from Samal, Davao, scored an average rating of 93.45 to lead the top 10 list. Joining him is his fellow UM College of Engineering graduate Ronn Dave Torres Cañones, whose 90.75 ranked eighth overall.

At close second is Bryan Paul Capinding Balancia (92.20) from Baguio-based Saint Louis University, while Leonel Dave Penton Socorin of Bohol Island State University in Tagbilaran City ranked third with a 92.10 grade. 

University of Santo Tomas’ John Carlo Nicolas delos Santos (91.85), TUP-Manila’s Glen Rose San Pedro Belo (91.15), and University of the Philippines Diliman’s Robert Adrian Ng (91.15) round out the top 5. 

Placing sixth to tenth are:

6th - Christian John Paul Lijayan, Technological University of the Philippines-Visayas (91.10)

7th (tied) - Dominic Pastor Casio, UP Diliman (90.80) 

               - Melwin Garcia Toledo, Bulacan State University Malolos (90.80)

8th - Ronn Dave Torres Cañones, University of Mindanao Davao City (90.75)

9th - Jacob Bulaon dela Cruz, Bulacan State University Malolos (90.55)

10th - Allen Paul Lumanao Jasareno, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (90.45)

Notably, seven out of the twelve top-performing exam takers hail from regional schools as well.
