The art of crafting pots, pans, and cauldrons through the traditional method of pounding and shaping is alive and thriving in Floridablanca, Pampanga.
For Diosdado Reyes, a 62-year-old craftsman, and his wife, Lourdes, of Barangay Mabical, making cauldrons has supported them through life for three decades.
Creating aluminum cauldrons involves a meticulous process of manual pounding to achieve the desired form. The repeated pounding is necessary to mold the cauldron properly.
A spinning machine is employed to refine the shape of the cauldron, followed by the manual washing of each piece.
The next steps involve attaching handles and adding lids to complete the cauldron.
Diosdado shares that making cauldrons has sustained his family, which is why despite challenges, he remains dedicated to his craft.
For Diosdado and Lourdes, this collaboration between husband and wife is crucial in growing their business.
