Barangay Navaluan in Mangaldan, Pangasinan has installed 13 new CCTV cameras after thieves stole one, damaging the entire system, and leaving the community without surveillance.
"Noong ninakaw ‘yung CCTV, gabi nangyari ‘yun. Nasira na lahat kasi nag-spark ‘yung linya kaya damay lahat, hindi na napakinabangan," Francis Lopez, Chairperson of Barangay Navaluan, said.
Barangay officials were forced to spend a large amount to replace the cameras, and ensure security in the area would not be compromised.
Barangay officials are still trying to determine the motive behind the crime, as of this writing.
As a response, the barangay doubled its security measures, especially at night.
"‘Yung mga tanod gabi-gabi nagro-roving, walang mintis ‘yan para makita nila kung sino ang mga gumagawa ng ganyan," Lopez said.
Residents believe CCTV cameras are important for their safety.
"Para malaman natin kung sino ang gumagawa ng kalokohan," Lourdes Sanchez, a resident, said.
To further strengthen security, the barangay council is now planning to install more CCTV cameras in different areas.
