School leaders, members of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), select students of Talisay City College, and other residents of Talisay City, Cebu relearned their history from the experts on the eve of the 80th anniversary of “Takas sa Talisay.”

“Takas” in Cebuano means to arrive on shore (often misconstrued with the Filipino word “takas” which means escape.)

Cebu historian and archeologist Dr. Jose Eleazar Bersales was athe keynote speaker of a forum on Talisay history.

Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas opened the event and reminded participants on the significance of knowing how freedom and independence was fought so today’s generation can enjoy the life of a freeman.

The forum also featured an exhibit of World War II artifacts.

Dr. Richel Bacaltos, president of Talisay City College, said that they have mulled a collaboration with the Talisay City Department of Education Division, on the inclusion of local history of Talisay in the curriculum for elementary and secondary levels.

A non-working holiday in Talisay City on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, was declared that called for the suspension of classes.

However, work in the private sector has continued.
