The Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) has collected more than P560,000 from delinquent consumers in just a week after the water bill amnesty program was implemented.
COWD implemented the program to allow inactive and delinquent consumers to settle their accounts through installment basis.
For more than 20 years, the water district still has P600 million collectibles from delinquent and inactive consumers.
COWD Interim General Manager Fermin Jarales said several consumers have already availed the program.
“Kadtong naa lang 60 ka accounts nga 100 thousand delinquent ni sila ang impact niya 100 thousand or more is 30 million karong semanaha ato na gi implementar,” Jarales said.
“Gipaningkamutan sad nato nga kining 20 ka tuig na nga mga obligasyon sa mga naputlan atong bang ma kolekta if not ato sad silang i-wala sa atong book of accounts,” Jarales added.
COWD is also working on solving the problem on non-revenue water and modernizing production wells and water lines.
COWD also said it needs more than P7 billion to implement the projects that would solve the shortage of water supply in the city.
