Authorities in Ilocos Norte destroyed 331 illegal "boga" and firecrackers.

The confiscated items, seized during police operations across the province, were crushed using a steamroller at Camp Valentin S. Juan in Laoag City.

The firecrackers were also submerged in water to ensure they were rendered unusable.

“So far, sa tingin namin, napaka-effective naman... Narinig na natin ang kapulisan, Bureau of Fire, at ating Provincial Disaster Risk Management Office, na nagsasalita sa pag-celebrate ng isang maayos, safe na New Year sa paggamit ng firecrackers,” Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Director PCOL Frederick Obar said.

The campaign targeted illegal firecrackers, particularly boga, which were confiscated from minors mostly.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Health Office reported 27 firecracker-related injuries this 2025, down from 33 cases in 2024.

“Mas mababa po tayo ngayon,” Dr. Rickson Balalio, Provincial Health Officer, said.
