A new road and drainage project in Poblacion Oeste, Dagupan City promises to provide relief to over 500 families who have long been affected by regular flooding.
Residents in the area have been struggling with knee-deep floods during high tide, a common issue that has disrupted daily life.
This problem may soon be solved with the construction of a new road and drainage canal.
The road will be raised over two feet high, while the drainage canal will be one meter wide and designed to connect to the main drainage system.
“Ang problema dito syempre magkakaroon ng baha sa mga bahay, dapat magtaas din sila, pero ang ginawa natin, lahat ng drainage nila connected sa main drainage canal,” Mark Anthony Gutierrez, Chairman of Barangay Poblacion Oeste, said.
For residents like Ting Mejia, the new project brings much-needed relief.
“Hindi na ako worried kasi hindi naman na aapaw ang tubig sa ibabaw, mataas na kasi,” she said.
The project is expected to be completed next week.
Barangay officials are also calling on residents to be responsible with waste disposal to prevent blockages in the new drainage system.
