After six years of hiatus, the Local World Youth Day (LWYD) made a comeback.

In a post of The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu, it was learned that the event was held from  November 30, 2024 to December 1, 2024 in the Municipality of San Remigio, northern Cebu Province that gathered over 2,000 youth from different parts of the Archdiocese of Cebu.

Organized by the Commission on Youth Cebu and hosted by District 6 - Far North Cebu, the 33rd LWYD focused on the Jubilee Year’s theme, “Pilgrims of Hope.”

“The 3-day event aimed to deepen participants’ faith, inspire their commitment to the Gospel, and foster a stronger sense of belonging to the Church,” the post reads.

Participants immersed in different foster families and communities in the festival sites across District 6:

St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Lambusan, San Remigio; San Juan Nepomuceno Parish in San Remigio;

Sto. Niño Parish in the adjacent town of Medellin; Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Vincent Ferrer Parish in Bogo City; Sto. Niño Quasi Parish in Nailon, Bogo City; Holy Family of Nazareth Parish in Lapaz, Bogo City; and St. Martin de Porres Parish in Ilihan, Tabogon town.

Further, it was learned that delegates listened to a talk on the theme, “Pilgrims of Hope,” and exchanged insights during group sharing.

Pilgrims convened at the Artemio Masbate Sports Complex in San Remigio for the Vocation Fest and “Gabii sa Pagmaya.”

“Pilgrims deepened their spiritual connection with the Lord through Eucharistic Adoration and Confession,” the post added.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma (AJP) spent time with the pilgrims in a dialogue dubbed “Bai Tara: AJP Encounter with the Young.”

It was further learned that the dialogue with Archbishop Palma came with a twist. Instead of the usual setup where the young ask questions to the Archbishop, AJP threw questions to the young people to solicit their responses to various relevant societal issues.

A showcase of the talents of the youth from the different districts in the Archdiocese of Cebu was presented during the “Pasigarbo sa Distrito.”

“The presentations portrayed relevant social issues that young people face and how anchoring their faith and hope in God shall strengthen them to face and embrace life’s challenges,” the post concluded.

Moreover, at dawn of the First Sunday of Advent on December 1, 2024, the youth went on a “Pilgrim Walk” for more than two kilometers from Barangay Tacup to the Capelinha de Fatima Cebu in San Remigio where the closing program was held.
