A motorcycle in Calasiao, Pangasinan caught fire, leaving its owner devastated over the loss of his vehicle worth over P20,000.

The incident happened while the owner’s friend was trying to start the motorcycle.

"Yung kasama kong driver, bumili ng piyesa sa labas, dahil siya ang magamit na [ng] motor... biglang nagliyab daw," Ricky Paras, the owner, said.

Based on investigation by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), gasoline may have leaked from the motorcycle, as the motor was running, which likely caused the fire.

"Hindi napansin na may nag-spill sa tangke. So nung nag-start na yung motor, nang tinadyakan na niya siguro dahil medyo grounded at medyo luma na yung motor, doon na siguro nagkaroon ng spark," FSINSP. Gener Ramos, chief of Calasiao Fire Station, said.

A man was able to put the fire out using an extinguisher.

Paras had hoped to attach a sidecar to the motorcycle to use the vehicle for additional income but the fire put this plan on hold.

"Wala tayong magastos, nanghihinayang dahil kakabitan ko sana ng sidecar kaya lang ganyan ang nangyari," he said.

The BFP reminded vehicle owners to check their vehicles regularly, especially their electrical systems, to avoid accidents.
