Good news to seafarers from Bohol.

The first and only maritime training center in the province was inaugurated on Sunday, December 1, 2024 to increase the capabilities of maritime professionals in the country.

The center for required maritime training and upgrading is situated in Barangay Cambanac in the Municipality of Baclayon.

Administrators of the maritime training center and officials of the Province of Bohol, as well as officials from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), among others, graced the opening of the training center.

According to Dr. Glenn Mark Blasquez, president of the training center, Bohol is a Top 5 producer of seafarers in the country.

MARINA administrator Sonia Malaluan disclosed that in 2023, some 578,000 Filipino seamen worked out of the country that supplied 25 percent of the world’s demand for seafarers.

These seafarers contributed to the national coffers worth approximately $6.5 million in annual remittances, Malaluan said.
