Nine persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Puerto Princesa City Jail Male Dormitory have completed an art course that is seen to help them with potential income opportunities.

The free pencil shading and drawing techniques program is aimed at providing inmates with artistic skills through an initiative called “GUHIT” (Gain Useful Habits for Illustrating True-to-Life Art).

Led by Skills Enhancement Officer Jail Officer 1 Neil Factura of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, the program teaches rough drawing and guided grid portrait techniques, providing inmates with productive activities and potential income opportunities.

According to Factura, the training not only enhances the PDLs’ abilities but also contributes to their Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA).

BJMP MIMAROPA Information Officer Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo said their office fully supports the “Integration Through Skills Development Project,” which prepares inmates for reintegration into society.

Apart from drawing lessons, the facility also offers various livelihood, sports, education, and moral recovery programs for the 228 PDLs under its care.
