Residents of Sitio Lasip in Barangay Buenlag, Calasiao, Pangasinan are still dealing with persistent flooding caused by rainwater from recent storms.
Many are worried about the impact on their health and daily lives.
"Mabaho ‘yung tubig dito. Tapos ilang weeks na rin, mga dalawang linggo yata... dati hindi dito nababaha," Jesus Lomboy, one of the affected residents, said.
The stagnant floodwaters, which reached knee to waist level during Super Typhoon #PepitoPH, have yet to recede fully after nearly two weeks.
"Naihirapan kami, buti naglagay ‘yung anak ko ng tulay diyan. Dito dapat kami dadaan. Hirap na hirap kaming lumabas," Norma Ecofabia, a 71-year-old resident, said.
Residents attribute the prolonged flooding to poor drainage and lack of outlets for water to flow into the river.
Barangay officials have sought assistance from the local government to address the issue.
"Tinitingnan sa assessor's office kung puwedeng gumawa ng drainage [as a] long-term solution... sa gilid ng kalsada," Barangay Councilman Joey Ocampo said.
The local government has also provided soil for residents to elevate their yards temporarily.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) is working with other agencies to study the situation and find sustainable solutions, especially for low-lying areas prone to flooding.
