Trash collection in Dagupan City has risen by 10 tons daily with the volume of waste expected to climb further during the holiday season, according to the city’s Waste Management Division (WMD).

Before All Saints Day and All Souls Day, the city collected 50 tons of garbage daily. This jumped to 60 tons and could reach 65 tons per day by Christmas.

“Napansin natin na ang basura sa Dagupan ay dumami. Siguro maraming tao ang pumupunta rito,” WMD Chief Bernard Cabison said.

Seven garbage trucks operate across barangays to collect waste, with some barangays using their own trucks.

Workers, like Lilybeth Nevado from Barangay Malued, said it is important to segregate waste.

“Para maayos ang basura [at] para hindi malangaw,” she said.

The WMD calls on residents to dispose of waste responsibly and separate biodegradable from non-biodegradable items to improve efficiency in transporting trash to the Tarlac landfill.

“May mga kababayan pa rin tayo na hindi sumusunod sa policy na dapat segregated ang ating mga basura,” Cabison said.
