A suspected burglar was killed, and his accomplice was injured, during a shootout with police in Cabanatuan City.

The incident occurred at around 3 a.m. in a subdivision in Barangay Sumacab Este.

According to authorities, the suspects broke into a house and stole appliances, which they carried out through a window.

A caretaker monitoring the property through closed circuit television (CCTV) spotted the suspects and alerted the police, who responded quickly.

As officers approached, the suspects reportedly opened fire, prompting the police to shoot back.

One suspect was hit fatally, while the other tried to escape by jumping over roofs and fences but injured himself after getting caught on sheet metal.

Police recovered a firearm used by the suspects and the stolen appliances.

The injured suspect was brought to a hospital and will face criminal charges.

Authorities revealed the suspects had previously been involved in thefts in the city.
