Flooding remains a problem at Buenlag Central School in Calasiao, Pangasinan, where floodwaters continue to fill the compound.

With classes canceled since November 7, 2024 due to Typhoon #MarcePH, students are getting a break from navigating flooded grounds.

"Sana humupa na yung baha sa school kasi nahihirapan na kaming dumaan doon," Marwa Perez, a Grade 4 student, said.

Barangay officials say they are coordinating with the local government to address the issue.

"Humihingi ng tulong sa kinauukulan na sana matulungan kami dito sa Buenlag," Barangay councilman Rey Bulatao, Chairman of the Barangay Buenlag Council’s Education Committee, said.

But the situation has pushed the students to engage in outdoor activities with some doing sports and exercise.

John Patrick Perez, a Grade 6 student, said they are staying active to avoid too much time with their gadgets.

"Para ma-exercise kami araw-araw kasi hindi puwede yung puro kami gadget," Perez said.

John Bennidict Caoile, a Grade 8 student, enjoys basketball with friends, while Martin Lee Albarece, captain of the school’s sepak takraw team, focuses on training.

"Kailangan ng tiyaga at sipag at araw-araw na training," Albarece said.

Students are expected to return to school once the water levels recede.
