A banana tree in Barangay Apaya, Laoag City has become a local attraction for producing just one, unusually large fruit.

The fruit measured over a foot long and weighed more than a kilo.

“Namangha kami dahil wala nang ibang bunga. Isang saba lang. Hinayaan namin na lumaki... at sobra na ang laki at bigat,” said Marilou Diego, the one who tended to the banana tree.

Before tasting the banana, Diego shared its photo on social media, amazed by its size.

When she finally tried it, she found it sweet.

The banana, a variety called "tindok" or giant horn plantain, typically takes 11 months to bear fruit and doesn’t produce the usual heart.
