With still two weeks to Halloween, shoppers have started flocking to the Calasiao Public Market to snag affordable costumes.

One of the shoppers, Paula Santos, is taking advantage of the lower prices to buy costumes for her nieces and nephews before prices increase.

"Mas mura po kasi kapag mas maagang bibili," Santos said.

Vendors like Ditas San Pedro are expecting sales to pick up towards the end of October.

"Sa ngayon, okay pa rin kasi may mga bumibili na ng costume. Advance na silang bumili ngayon," Ditas said.

Popular items such as witch hats and pumpkins are priced currently between P35 and P50, depending on the type.

With the expected rise in costume sales, health authorities have warned the public against toys and costumes that may have chemicals that are harmful, especially to kids, like lead.

Lead exposure can lead to health risks such as seizures, allergies, and poisoning.

"Very important po na hindi ito naisusubo ng mga bata dahil ang mga highly-colored na mga laruan ay mataas ang lead content," Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa De Guzman, Pangasinan Provincial Health Officer, said.
