What started as a simple trip to buy bread turned into a remarkable act of honesty for 27-year-old pharmacy assistant John Paul Barcena.
While walking in front of a school in Bangued, Abra, Barcena noticed a plastic bag on the ground, which he thought was trash.
He picked it up, however, when he opened the plastic at home with his wife, they were shocked to find packages of jewelry inside.
Not hesitating for a moment, Barcena shared his discovery on social media and surrendered the jewelry to the police.
“Hindi ako masaya kapag hindi ko pinaghirapan. Mas maganda pa rin kapag pinaghirapan,” he said.
Minutes later, an Indian national claimed the jewelry, explaining it may have fallen from his motorcycle's compartment when he opened it after dropping his child off at school.
The jewelry is valued at over P100,000.
The owner expressed his gratitude towards Barcena, praising his generosity.
“Salamat sa kanya, he really has a heart of gold.” he said.
