Students of Mangaldan National High School are facing the risk of electrical cables dangling low along their pathways to school.

Although railings have been installed to guide students safely, the exposed cables still pose a significant risk.

“Alam niyo naman yung bata, kapag pinaglaruan yan mayroong live yan na wire, baka makuryente sila or else mag-hang sila, magca-cause sa aksidente,” Christian Velencia, the disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) coordinator at Mangaldan National High School, said.

Many students are worried about their safety as they navigate these hazards.

“Delikado kasi baka masagi sila or kunyari may kuryente, pwede silang makuryente,” Jeanne Imbat, a student, said.

“Nakakapahamak siya at saka makaka-disgrasya, kaya kailangan naming iwasan. Sana maayos na yun para hindi mapahamak yung mga estudyante na dumadaan doon,” Annika Mae Dioquino, another student, added.

The school administration said they are now coordinating with the Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (CENPELCO) and other telecommunications companies.

They are also working with the barangay.

“Ang procedure na gagawin namin, mag-write kami ng letter complaining about that sa electrical company, then sa telecommunication company,” Velencia said.

The school has assured that they will monitor the situation closely.
