Residents in Poblacion East in Calasiao, Pangasinan are struggling with stagnant water in their area, which has reportedly caused health concerns.

In Purok Uno, stagnant water has accumulated for over a month.

Among those affected is Alfredo Sarmiento, who lives in Maligaya Village and had to rush to the hospital for a check-up due to recurring illness in his family.

"Nagkasunod-sunod kaming nagkakasakit ng asawa ko, lagnat, yung ubo ko, magpapa-X-ray sana ako... malamig masyado," Sarmiento said.

The stagnant water has emitted foul odor and filth to the community, and residents have been getting sick repeatedly.

Sarmiento expressed frustration over the long-standing issue.

"Dekada nang problema ito sir... sana magkaroon ng isang tao na magmamalasakit sa amin dito," he said.

While the barangay has been working on cleaning the drainage and pumping the water out, floods still return whenever it rains.

"Sa pangako sa amin, by next year [nasa] budget na daw ni Congresswoman. Patataasin na, may drainage na... na-inspect na rin [ito] ng DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) Sta. Barbar," Lito Senieto, Barangay Secretary, said.

Residents are hopeful that the area will be elevated and the drainage system improved. For now, the barangay hall provides free medicine to those in need.
