The frequent theft of streetlight cables in Barangay San Vicente, Calasiao, Pangasinan is causing concern among local officials and residents who fear it may lead to more road accidents.
According to the barangay council, still unidentified thieves have stolen the cables repeatedly, particularly in Purok 6 and 7.
"Namomroblema kami dahil ninanakaw yung wiring sa may Purok Sais at Saka Siyete. Ilang beses nang nangyayari sa amin. Mayroon naman kaming mga CCTV kaso hindi na abot doon," Vanessa Kate Mendoza, councilwoman of San Vicente, said.
Streetlights are critical in the area, as some sections of the road are accident-prone. Without proper lighting, residents fear for their safety.
The barangay officials have intensified monitoring efforts, especially at night, to catch the thieves, but no suspects have been identified as of this writing.
