Residents of Barangay Mohon Arevalo in Iloilo City carried out a communal cleanup activity to destroy possible breeding grounds of mosquitoes.

Mohon Arevalo has remained to be the only barangay in Iloilo City that has not logged a case of dengue yet despite a declaration of a state of calamity over the city for dengue outbreak.

Mohon Arevalo Barangay Chairman Rico Francis Acap, in an interview with GMA Super Radyo Iloilo, said that initiatives to maintain cleanliness include the  collection of receptacles such as cans, bottle caps, plastic containers, among others, that are possible breeding places of mosquitoes. These are brought to a Material Recovery Facility (MRF).

Acap said  that he has not launched a house-to-house campaign to remind residents on cleaning up regularly. Rather, he reiterated that residents themselves must initiate the cleanup beginning at their own yards to ensure that the barangay remains dengue-free.

“Indi namon masulod ang inyo balay para limpyuhan. Sa inyo gid mismo maumpisa,” Punong Barangay Acap said.

Based on the latest record of the City Health Office, Mohon Arevalo is the only barangay in Iloilo City (with 180 barangays) that has not logged a case of dengue hemorrhagic fever, as of posting time.
