For several days, the outdated drainage system in Barangay Cabilocaan has been causing problems for local residents.

The problem has led to water pooling on the roads, especially during heavy rains, as there is no proper drainage for the water.

"Diretso ‘yan na tubig, talagang kawawa mga estudyante. Nilulusong. Kawawa sila kapag nakasapatos," Lita Manongdo, a resident, said.

Residents are also worried that the stagnant water could become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, raising concerns about dengue fever, which is currently widespread.

"‘Yung kanal, hindi umaagos ang tubig kaya ‘yan ang problema. Kapag ulan, baha agad," Lorna Zapanta, another resident, said.

According to the Barangay Council, the old drainage system is connected to a newly constructed one, which might be causing blockages or obstructions in the flow of water.

John Paul Perez, chairman of Barangay Cabilocaan, said they are now planning consulting with the contractor to improve the drainage system.

“Sa ngayon, ang nakikita namin [na course of action ay] i-consult muna sa contractor kung ano ang magandang gagawin sa drainage na medyo mabagal ang pag-agos ng tubig," he said.
