Residents of Sitio Balinayeo in Barangay Salay, Mangaldan, Pangasinan, are growing increasingly concerned about stagnant water pooling on PNR Road West, which has become a health and safety hazard.

A section of the road has been submerged under stagnant, murky water for nearly a month.

The water, now dark and covered with moss, emits a foul odor, creating a nuisance for those passing by, especially students on their way to school.

The road has also become slippery, making it a safety risk.

Residents are worried that the stagnant water might become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, potentially leading to dengue.

"Natatakot nga kami kasi siyempre baka magka-dengue dito," Nora Lalimarmo, a resident, said.

Barangay officials said the area is naturally low-lying, causing water to accumulate. Without a drainage system, there is no outlet for the water.

"Dapat kasi may drainage diyan," Lalimarmo said.

In response, barangay officials have placed sandbags to help residents navigate the flooded area.

Victor Velasquez, a barangay councilman, said the construction of a drainage canal is part of their long-term solution.

"Sa last quarter ngayong taon, i-discuss namin ang mga priority project next year, talagang gawin naming priority ‘yan," Velasquez said.

For now, barangay officials plan to conduct water pumping operations to remove the accumulated water from the area.
