An e-bike caught fire in a subdivision in Barangay Sto. Tomas, Biñan City, Laguna, damaging a motorcycle and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) parked nearby.

Authorities believe the fire was caused by the e-bike's battery getting overcharged.

"'Yung battery talaga sa bandang ilalim talaga nanggaling sa battery, and then, nag-spread-out na siya doon sa ano sa entire na e-bike," FO3 Mark Anthony De Roxas, Chief of the Intelligence and Investigation Unit at the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Biñan City, said.

The owner of the e-bike tried to put out the fire himself, but it was too late.

"Magkakatabi lang talaga, Sir, 'yung tatlo. Kaya 'yung spread ng fire, eh, mabilis kasi ano lang siya eh magkakalapit lang 'yung distance," De Roxas said.

Damage from the fire is pegged at P300,000.

According to BFP, discussions are underway with the parties involved.

Authorities advised motorists not to leave e-bikes charging for long periods of time to prevent such incidents.
